Researchers have predicted that a driverless future would reduce the number of car accidents by 90 percent. A world in which every car was driverless would be the safest outcome, with vehicles shifting through traffic using computer coordination. It will take many years for everyone to have a car like this, but we can still accomplish a smaller goal. Putting just a few of these cars on the road is expected to significantly reduce traffic, which would make it logical for the government to support them. Another reason the government should support automated vehicles is that a significant reduction in accidents would be beneficial to American lives.
