The word “Rede” means “to advice” or “to counsel” in Middle English. ---- WitchVox
The word “Rede” has existed much before the Wiccan Rede and is different from that. Since Rede simply means counsel or advice, thus it is simply a guideline of how a person should behave. In Pagan Religions, Wiccan Rede is widely known and followed. Wiccan Rede can also be termed as “phrase of code of ethics in magick”. In a speech given by Doreen Valiente in 1964, she spoke of the eight words couplet of Wiccan Rede: “An’ it harms none, do what ye will”.
The Wiccan Rede basically is the law by which the witches live. The Wiccan Rede allows them to form their own beliefs and practices but only as long as it doesn’t harm anyone. Harming none also means that

It is an important source of foundation upon the actions and beliefs of the Pagans and the Wiccans.
For a person who’s new to the Craft, this concept would be difficult to accept. It is so because you can do all magick work only for yourself. Even if it is for others, it has to be with their consent. And whatever their consent, no harm is anyways allowed. At times certain form of ‘high level’ magick might be required to follow like Hexing, where consent of the person is not taken. However, this form of magick needs to be done with utmost understanding and intentional or unintentional harm needs to be avoided.
It also means that you take responsibility for your own actions every moment of your life. A witch is supposed to think the actions that she does, what effect will it have on people around her and her own self.
Most Wiccans interpret the Wiccan Rede as including harm to themselves as well as to another person or persons.

whatever action one does good or bad, its effects come back to the same person magnified three times), I would be very careful not to do any activity that harms me or anyone else.
Also, people who would be viewing Wicca in a negative way, I can show this law to them and assure them that by following Wicca I am bound by law not to do any harm to anyone.
And if I am ever taught any negative stuff in the name of Wicca I will not follow it.
It is important term to know and understand. Wiccan Rede indicates that an important and powerful tool like Magick should never be used for anybody’s harm. It means that in any initiation or coven, even if any wrong practices are being taught in the name of Wicca, you can always reject it straightaway if you think it has the potential to harm anybody.
Also there’s a concept of will here. Each person has his or her own will and a witch can never force her will on any person even for a good cause.
Most Wiccans interpret the Wiccan Rede as prevention of harm inluding themselves as well as another person or persons.
