Hertzberg-Wild Scholarship Essay Thought my life I have tried to live as an upstanding citizen in my home, school, and community. My parents have taught me from a young age to respect those around you, and to do your best to be a good person. I have found myself in various leadership roles over time, and I have always done my best to be a good leader, and to show the respect my parents taught me to those under my lead. My direct leadership training and experience has been through the Boy Scouts. I am an Eagle Scout, and during my time in scouts, I served as a member in the troop, whose only job is to follow, all the way up to the senior patrol leader, the youth member in charge of running the entire troop, as well as about every position in between. My time in various roles at various stages all taught me different lessons. As a follower, it is important to listen to the directions above you without question, and to give member senior to you the respect they deserve. As a mid-level leader, I learned it is important to respect those both above and below you, and to give direction thoughtfully and fairly. It is also important to be a voice for those below you, when there are problems coming from above you.
