William Blake is one of the most pre-romantic American poets. He wrote “The Chimney Sweeper” forms Songs of Innocence and Song of Experience that reflects the cultural realities that describe the horrible living conditions of child labor and slavery described through a child in 18th century England (Khamis). In that time many children were taking to child salve and become homeless. Throughout the poem a reader will find out several things when father sold his young child. In “The Chimney Sweeper” William Blake used imagery, tone and diction to bring a sense of salvation as theme.

In starting Blake formed a dark and depressing tone, “When my mother died I was very young”(Blake 520), shows the depression child. Overall, the tone of the poem this poem is hopeful and prospective. Also, the tone is caught so perfectly faithfully, “ And the Angle told Tom, if he’s be a good boy…” (Blake 520). Because of repeated with automatic trust. The use of word “white” in the poem is to increase the feeling of both purity and innocence. In line 8, Blake says, “You know what that the soot cannot spoil your white hair” (Blake 520), this tells how children want the freedom form their work. The word “weep” contains childlike diction because the child is speaking and “that thousands of sweepers” (Blake 520), shows that a big numbers of children are unprotected to the same poor conditions (Khamis). Also, the word “ Angle” stating that the children have to look forward to after life. Black uses the child’s helplessness to show an injustice of putting children in hard line of work.
