Emily Rose was very different from others. She seemed to be living in denial of the present time and had a fear of letting go . Emily couldn’t let go of her father or her boyfriend. First off, Emily’s father was very close with her. He seemed to control every aspect of her life and once he died she didn't’ know how to process, so she was in denial that he had passed away. William Faulkner writes, “ She told them that he was not dead. She did that for three days.” This shows that Emily was unable to let go off the past and focus on the present because she wouldn't even let go of her father's body.
