Author Style Essay What do you think about human nature in today's society? Human nature depends on someone's past and experience. William Golding had talked about his experience of human nature after World War II and started writing his first novel called The Lord of the Flies. His experience during this era has led him to express a certain style. Although his experience was portrayed negatively, he managed to make his style effective by making his story descriptive, interesting, and simple. Golding’s novel uses great figure of speech which made it interesting. In the novel, he includes many personification and simile but some metaphors. For example, “...and there the sun gazed down like an angry eye”(Golding 4). Golding compared the sun to an angry eye like it was heating up. This evidence shows a simile that compares with use of the word “like”. “Boys were making their way towards the platform through the hot, dumb sand”(Golding 22). This is a personification because it talks about how the boys are very senseless. “He was a shrimp of a boy about six year old, and one side of his face was blotted bout by a mulberry-colored birthmark”(Golding 35). Golding uses allegory to symbolize the character and the setting. For example, the main character name Ralph in novel symbolizes as ruler and leader. Another example of a setting is the “scar”, it symbolizes the terror and damage. The use of imagery and symbolism affects the author's style by making his story seamlessly
