A Look at the Life of William Wordsworth William Wordsworth, many would say, changed the meaning of poetry. He faced difficult years in his life but still managed to overcome and write some of the simplest yet meaningful poetry. His parents did not live to see him complete his accomplishments but he worked hard even though their presence was missing. Wordsworth’s writing style can be described as simple and nature focused. He often wrote about lower class people. “This new subject demanded a simple and unaffected language as those people would speak”, as Wordsworth stated. William Wordsworth left a lasting impression on poetry through the Romantic period. He led a great revolution through the wonder of nature and lowly people. This became a main theme in his poems along with nature. “We Are Seven” tells a story of the narrator (Wordsworth) meeting a little cottage girl, he then begins to ask her how many sisters and brothers she had. She answers him by saying “seven” and he proceeds to ask where they may be. She tells him where each of them are and he corrects her because as she explains it becomes clear that some of them have passed. The narrator then corrects the girl and she concludes that there are still seven even though some have passed. This conveys human emotion because often times many people do not want to accept that someone is gone and your family is there to keep your memory alive by remembering the times you had together. William Wordsworth had a great effect on poetry through his use of unexplored topics like nature and human emotion and his use of simple
