The story starts with a book protagonist who is a survivor of the tsunami. He gets rescued by Wolf Larsen who is the captain of “Phantom”. Wolf Larsen force the book protagonist to be part of his team. Instead of putting “Sea Wolf” into the adventure category, the book is more about the philosophy of life. The book is mixed with author’s own point of views and discussions about the beauty of life. Especially, the Characters in the book stand on their own feet and think b themselves. Wolf-Larsen is captain on the Phantom. He has a strong body and infinite explosive power. In the book, he can kill people without hesitation, use violence as a tool to let team members know who is the dominator. He is not afraid of anything and extremely confident about himself in different ways.Just like the book describes “Wolf - is what he is. He's not blackhearted like some men. 'Tis no heart he has at all.” In fact, although he sounds like a rude person, he desires for knowledge. The two main chapters are from different background, that is also why for the question “what life really is?” they have completely different opinions. For Weyden, as a person who has grown up from social strata and has been exploited endlessly, it is very hard for him to believe the idea of “survival of the fittest”. Weyden believes that help each other is the way that human society works, whereas Larsen is a altruism just like what he said in the book “Life? Bah! It has no value. Of cheap things, it is the cheapest.” There are so many thinking and strong quotation from different literature, forcing the reader to face the question which we don’t really talk about in the real life.
