Euripides' play Medea is an ancient Greek tragedy that won 3rd place at the Dionysia festival in 431 BCE. This play is now considered one of the great plays of ancient Greece, having a female character as the main lead which was very unusual in ancient Greek plays. Throughout the play, viewers are confused on whether to empathize or fear the main lead, leaving the audience unsure on their perspective of Medea, whether she was a good person, or "a frightening woman" (l.37)
