Did you know that women get paid less than men in Sports? It is true, women get paid way less than Men when it comes to professional sports. This is important to females because what if they want to fulfill their dream of becoming a pro athlete but can’t because they feel like it isn’t a reality. When it really should be an option and a reality for women. Should women get paid the same amount as men when it comes to sports? Women should be paid the same as men because they work equally as hard for their sport. They practice the same amount if not more than men's sports. Female athletes deserve to be recognized more because they are strong athletic women. According to the article “Female athletes deserve better pay” it states that “According to Forbes, Women National Basketball Association players make an average of $71,635 a year, while the average National Basketball Association salary is $6.4 million. There are people out there who would blame the gender pay gap in sports on women. We all hear comments like “women aren’t as entertaining,” “women aren’t as fast” and “women don’t dunk,” but the women’s game is not to blame” (Laurent 1). Women get less pay than men all because of their gender. They only make not even a third what the men make in sports all because they are women. Have you ever watch womens college softball? The catches where the centerfielder dives, or the shortstop makes an unbelievable double play. These athletes train their whole lives to not get recognized or have the opportunities that men do. This affects me because I play a higher level in sports and I hope that one day I can live my dreams of continuing to play softball. As a thirteen year old I train roughly 20 hours on average per week for a game that makes me happy. I train for the competitiveness, for the challenge, for the feelings that the softball field gives me. These professional women in sports train just as much as men, Espn just started broadcasting womens
