Until the past few decades women’s involvement in crime was neglected in criminology research. As their involvement in crime and in criminology research has emerged, there is still limited research on violent female offenders. Most notably in criminology research are how women’s pathways to crime often differ in relation to men. While these pathways still possess similarities and differences to men, violent female offenders have traits specific to them. Race and class also contribute to women’s involvement in violent crime, similarly to how identities are shaped from these different concepts. These traits include committing violent crimes with others (cite). For instance, many women commit violent crimes with an accomplish, in a gang, or with a male (cite). This shows how violent women is not typically an isolated occurrence. Violent women also typically commit violence without firearms and with weapons such as knife or blade (cite). These are usually one with threatening the victim. However, often time women will innate stabbing (cite). Another commonality among violent female offenders is, across the board, they often commit violent crimes in relation to sexual acts. Although not all responses cause violent criminal acts from females, some can.
