Question 1: How can the criminal justice system better meet the needs of women and girls in the areas of arrest decisions
While looking at the criminal justice system through a feminine lens, we can locate many issues within the justice system. Arrest of women is often at the officer’s discrepancy (Tichavsky, 2016). While this might seem like it a good thing, because officers are trained to arrest the bad people in society. However, women are less likely to be investigated for serious delinquency, because of the stereotype that women do not commit serious crimes. The gender bias that people have is creating allowing people who commit crimes to continue to commit crimes. There has been an accused idea ideology that women benefit from chivalry in the criminal justice system (Women and Crime: The Essentials, 2014). However, this same chivalry that benefits women, can result in women receiving harsher sentences due to them breaking the gender norm. Moreover, there is a lack of information about women in the pretrial stage. There needs to be a much more intensive study about why women are less likely to go to jail or …show more content…

There has been a rise in the amount of female inmate. With this, there should be more funding looking into helping women while they are in prison, however, this is not the case. For example, women’s health needs are not being met. To add, some women within the prison system are struggling with mental health issues, but they are just given pills that keep them dosed up (Tichavsky, 2016). These people need to be receiving proper therapy sessions, and medication that can help them better handle these issues. Lastly, mothers in prison are not treated terribly. Mothers are forced to give up their children, and are chained down while in labor. This practice had shown to be harmful for parent and child. Programs in states that help mothers in prison to better take care of their children, and allow for mothers to interact with their child have been proven to lower their recidivism rate. Question 4: intervention programming Intervention programs are used to help people to not participate in crime. However, most of these programs are incredibly underfunded. It is incredibly disheartening, because programs that work with people struggling with drug addiction, or reentry into the mainstream work have proven to lower the crime rate (Women and Crime: The Essentials, 2014). Therefore, in order to fix this issue, we need to provide more funding. No more budget cuts to programs that are proven
