When you hear “Remember the Alamo” you always think of that pivotal moment in the Texas Revolution. The drawing the line in the dirt story that Travis “drew” for those to either stay and fight or go as they chose. Well, this is about the women that decided to stay after that line was drawn. There is a lot of controversy on who were the actual survivors of the Alamo. As history is told after the battle of the Alamo, General Santa Anna spared the women, children and Travis’ slave named Joe.
In England, educated middle-class women purchased and discussed the books and pamphlets of the era. Some also contributed to the era 's intellectual life by raising the issue of the rights of women. In Paris, wealthy women made their homes centers of debate, intellectual speculation, and free inquiry. Their salons brought together philosophers, social critics, artists, and members of the aristocracy and commercial elite. Women were powerfully affected by their participation in revolutionary politics, which in part resulted from Enlightenment thinking.
As we look into chapter 10, there is a lot of discussion regarding James Madison and the War of 1812 had strong and weak aspects. It also had a different status of women and how their involvement in the war was significant than before. The War of 1812 was mostly taking place along the Canadian border. The War of 1812 emerged when Indian conflicts in the old Northwest had gotten worse and created a wider conflict with Britain. Although women could still not vote and the politics were left for the men, they found other ways to be involved.

They were a major factor in protesting against taxes and boycotting British goods. The Daughters of Liberty did whatever it took to free the Patriots from British rule. They accepted women from all ages and all backgrounds.
The American revolution was a war that changed the history of America forever. Because we weren’t really alive back then, we aren’t exactly sure if one of the 5 marginalized groups (Women, Natives, Spanish, Impoverished, and Africans.) were included in helping win the war during the American Revolution. The men and women who served in the Revolutionary War often did so to improve their lives, whether it was out of necessity or due to false promises of fame and fortune. Pensions were often promised to encourage enlistment and keep men from quitting, and while the new source of income was incredibly beneficial, the number of problems faced by those who served outweighed the money gained. Men lost their lives, friends, families, and time, and all the government could do was give them a few dollars every now and then. In order to receive the pension, those who served were required to fill out an application that proved their service and would indicate how much money one would get in return.

The most common roles for women in the Revolutionary War were cooks, maids, and seamstresses for the army.

It is very imperative to highlight the significant role that women played during the American Revolution. During this era a woman was often portrayed as illiterate, child-bearing mother, and a homemaker.
While reading about American history the thing that I found most appealing was the limited rights that women had during this era. Although women gave the early settlers longer life expectancy and brought hope to their future, women still were not considered equal to a man. Women were discriminated against and didn’t play an important role in early American history. Generally, women had fewer legal rights and career opportunity than men because they were considered weak and not able to perform certain tasks. Different women came from different ethnic backgrounds and were all created equal in the eyes of men.

Since the eighteenth century, women still try to be equal to men and try to be independent. During the American Revolution, women were dependent on their husband. This meant they had to cook, clean and take care of their children. They were not allowed to do what they wanted.
The French Revolution of 1789-1799 aimed to spread Liberty, Equality and Brotherhood through France and through Europe. It wished to create a French Republic and it ultimately resulted in the overthrow and executions of the King Louis XVI and Queen Marie Antoinette. It failed, however, to secure voting rights for women. Despite this, participation of women in the Revolution was clear. However, the question remains - just how did women help the Revolution, and how important were their roles?
