President Woodrow Wilson Dead Woodrow Wilson, twenty-eighth president of the U.S., passed yesterday morning at 11:15, after being unconscious for nearly twenty hours. He was born on December 28, 1856 in Staunton, Virginia. After birth, his family moved around several times in his childhood and teenage years. After attending a series of prestigious universities and colleges, he received a Ph. D.. After college, he taught at a many great universities and later became president of Princeton. In 1910, he was elected Governor of New Jersey, and then in 1912, he was elected President. One of the things Wilson was most famous for was his Fourteen Points, introduced to achieve world peace. This dramatic, romantic, and musical film will definitely go on to win great awards. There is even some dialogue and sound, which is very different to most silent films we have! Even though there is not tons of dialogue, it still is very different and out there, and other films will probably follow in the footsteps. The storyline is about a boy named Jakie Rabinowitz. He had an argument with his father about Jackie's profession, and, after the bitter argument, Jakie decided to leave home for good. Then, a few years later, he got in incredible opportunity by a famous stage performer named Mary Dale. Although Jakie was forced to make some difficult decisions in order to balance his job, relationship with Mary, and memories of his family, he managed to push through in the end. Many people, including us critics, agree that this movie will go on to make millions in the theaters. The main actor, Al Jolson, who plays Jakie, and the main actress, May McAvoy, who plays Mary Dale, were terrific and kept us engaged in the storyline. This amendment will, no doubt, change America in many big ways. Some men are angry at this new addition to the constitution, but almost all women could not be happier. The fight for women's suffrage on a national level began in 1848. After a seventy year battle of petition and protesting for women’s suffrage, Congress finally approved of amendment, and enough of the states agreed with it, and so the amendment was finally ratified. In the end, it all came down to Tennessee’s vote, which was determined by 23 year old Harry Burn, for the state legislators had a 48-48 tie and he was the deciding vote. Even though Burn was against the amendment, his mother reportedly wrote “Don’t forget to be a good boy and help Mrs. Catt put the ‘rat’ in ratification,” so he voted for the amendment.
