The Korean war:
The Korean war started on June 25, 1950. It started after World War II, which divided Korea into a two different countries one Communist, and a non-Communist. The northern half of Korea was a Communist led by Kim II Sung, and the southern half of Korea was a non-Communist led by the dictator Syngman Rhee. The North Korean army was better trained and had better weapons than South Korea’s army. The North Korean army invaded South Korea with the help of the Soviet tanks, and quickly overrun South Korea. However the United States came to help South Korea. The Soviet Union and China were North Korea’s allies, on the other hand, the United Nations and the United States were South Korea’s allies. The president of Egypt during the Suez Crisis was Gamal Abdel Nasser, and it started in 1956, when he Nationalized the Suez Canal. The reason for the Suez Crisis to start was because the United States and Britain refused to pay for Egypt’s construction of the Aswan High Dam, which they had promised. The United States and Britain didn’t want to finance Egypt’s construction, because Egypt was growing ties with Communist, and since they didn’t want Communism to spread more round the world. In response to the United States and Britain’s decision Nasser declared the martial law in the canal zone and taking all control of the Suez Canal. His idea and plan was that Egypt would be able to pay for the dam’s construction within five years with the tolls collected from the ships that passed through the canal. Britain and France feared that Nasser might close the canal and cut off shipments of petroleum flowing from the Persian Gulf to Western Europe, therefore, they tried to settle the Suez Crisis, however, it failed. Britain and France prepared a military action secretly, so they could gain control of the Suez Canal again. Britain and France almost brought the Soviet Union to the Suez Crisis, which damaged the relationship they had with the United States. Later, Israel became the ally of Britain and France. It started during the start of the Cold War, which was the tension between the United States and the Soviet Union after World War II, because the Soviet Union was Communist and the United States didn’t want Communism to spread more around the world. Americans were afraid that there would be infiltrations spying and giving secret information about the United States atomic program to the Soviet Union. During the Red Scare a Republican Senator Joseph McCarthy took advantage of the paranoia and hysteria that the Americans had to advance politically by accusing employees of communist leanings. However, they didn’t take his accusations as being true, and the Senate censured him. Because the Soviet Union detonated its first atomic device, made the Americans be concerned about how the Soviet Union got the bomb so fast. The United States found out that there were Soviet spies in the US atomic program, who passed secret information about the atomic bomb to Russia, and Americans started to worry that there might be spies in every part of the country. Also in the late 1940s and early 1950s, were several trials accusing scientists and government figures of espionage, and they were convicted. One of the most known cases was the execution of the scientist Julius and Ethel Rosenberg for passing information about the atomic bomb to Russia.
