Dwight D. Eisenhower
Even though Dwight Eisenhower is the 11th President who has also held the office of general in the military, he is one of only five elected Presidents to be somewhat bald. Dwight David Eisenhower was the 34th President of the United States. He was elected in 1953 and served two terms until 1961. He ran as a Republican against Adlai Stevenson in both 1952 and 1956. The Korean War began in June of 1950 while President Truman was still in office. Essentially, North Korea invaded South Korea in an attempt to conquer them by military force. President Truman decided to combine our forces with that of the United Nations’ who were assisting South Korea. The Chinese attacked the United Nations Command and pushed troops back. This led to North Korea taking South Korea’s capital, Seoul. Months later the UNC took back Seoul. The pilot, plane remains, and photographs of Soviet military bases were brought into the spotlight by the Soviets just two weeks before an east-west summit in Paris. This ruined America’s reputation as an honest nation. Many of Eisenhower’s supporters influenced him to drop a bomb on the Soviets and call it a done deal but while at the summit Eisenhower handled the situation as diplomatically as he could. Thus no act of aggression developed from either country. Another incident that tested Eisenhower’s calm and collected nature was the Formosa Resolution. The Formosa Resolution (now known as Taiwan) was a bill implemented by Congress in January 1955. This bill stated that if the nation of Formosa was attacked by the Republic Of China the United States would be there to defend them. President Eisenhower promised Formosa to protect territories in the West Pacific from the Republic of China. The
