Dwight David Eisenhower served two terms in the United States White House from 1953 to 1961. He was the 34 president serving right before John Fitzgerald Kennedy. His main time in office was during the Cold War with Russia. Eisenhower had hope to create peace with the Russians, but gave up soon after. During his time as president, multiple laws were created to help the citizens of the United States. Overall, Eisenhower took many positive steps in our country during his Presidency.

On July 26, 1953 at 10 p.m. he broadcasted from the White House to announce some very big news. He announced that an armsistance between the United States and Korea was signed around 9 pm that day. This meant that the United States and the other United Nations would no longer be fighting against the Communist Nations. He referenced how much money had been spent on these types of wars and how many more homes and lives have been destroyed by the violent wars. President Eisenhower sympathized with those of lost ones with saying: “To the widows and orphans of this war, and to those veterans who bear disabling wounds, America renews tonight her pledge of lasting devotion and care.” This was both empowering to those who have struggled in and out of the country and to thank those who have given their lives to the cause. President Eisenhower was a very down to earth and civil president. Though overall the citizens living in the United States were happy and carefree, Eisenhower did not relate on that level. This is not the only time Eisenhower addressed the United States on a very important topic involving other countries. On April 16, 1953, he gave his speech known as the “Cross of Iron.” This speech was after the death of Russian Premier Joseph Stalin. This was comparing the difference between Coviet philosophies and United States philosophies. He discussed how much the United States sacrificed to protect themselves and how bad war really is. The Cross of Iron is talking about how much is lost to create more violence and more ruin rather than leading to peace. His speech was impactful and honest and spoke to most American families.
