World War II DBQ World War II was one of the most devastating and disastrous time periods in the world. World War II spanned from the years 1939-1945 and approximately 60,000,000 people were killed. (OI) During the war, the Japanese, allied with the Axis Powers, attacked an American harbor in Hawaii. This resulted in the death of hundreds of Americans and the attack wasn’t even provoked. The Americans were hardly involved in the war until the Japanese attacked. This was one of the many reasons that America dropped the atomic bomb on Japan. The first reason, in greater perspective, was the attack of Pearl Harbor by the Japanese on December 7, 1941 (Doc. A). In the early morning Japanese planes had flown out of the clouds and began sinking ships, either by raining fire on the soldiers, or flying their planes straight into the ships. By the end of the attack, 2,400 Americans were dead. The attack was unexpected and unnecessary. The sunken ships are still left at the bottom of the harbor, as a memorial to the soldiers who lost their lives to the tragic events of Pearl Harbor. President Harry S. Wars are usually fought to protect countries but we forget sometimes that many people who go to war don’t return home. One of the many reasons people are killed in the war is due to prisoner camps. In Japan, 650 American soldiers were killed by the Japanese in what was known as the “Bataan Death March”. (OI) Another reason people were killed by the Japanese was because of the Jap’s desperation to win the war. So much that they were killing themselves by crashing their own planes into U.S. ships, killing hundreds of U.S. soldiers with just one plane.
