The financial expenses for college make it not worth the cost. One of the biggest complaints that college graduates have is the enormous amount of money they have to pay back from student loans. This debt affects the graduates negatively. According to Source F, almost 50% of college students say that student loans made it harder for them to pay their bills. This makes college not worth the cost because people are essentially spending money they don’t have with the promise of being successful afterward, yet they struggle to be able to live and pay bills. Depression and anxiety are very common mental illnesses but it is most prominent in college students because of the multitude of stress they endure. Depression and anxiety can lead to many serious and sometimes fatal health problems. Paying thousands of dollars a semester for unwanted stress and mental illnesses is simply not worth it. Additionally, before students even get to middle school, they are often already being asked what they want to be in life or what college they plan on attending. The amount of pressure students feel about going to college is very unhealthy. In a survey I recently read, students said they felt that if they didn’t go to college, their parents wouldn’t be proud of them or happy with them. Why pay thousands of dollars on an unwanted education just to make someone else happy? It is simply not worth it. Lastly, in an article I read recently, suicide was said to be the 2nd most common cause of death in college students. They often feel as if they are failures and that the only solution is to take their own life. This makes college not worth it because even though some people make it out just fine, high school can only prepare students for so much and sadly, mental health is generally rarely ever mentioned.
