Most people have something special that shaped them as a whole. As for me, it began in the winter of sophomore year when I joined wrestling. I never expected myself to join a male-dominated sport. However, wrestling ended up making a huge impact in my life because it taught me to have a positive mindset, not to give up easily, always work hard for what you want, and many more. It was part of wrestling that made me who I am today. More importantly, it created a second family and home for me.
Wrestling requires both mental and physical aspects. When I joined wrestling, I weighed about 102 pounds. The season lasted for three and a half months. I would go to practices, which were five times a week for almost three hours. It included running miles, intense drills, lifting weights, learning new techniques and more. When I wrestled, I would wear my headgear, kneepads, and mouthguard (I had braces at that time).

Every practice, I paid close attention to what the coaches were teaching and would ask questions. I came home with more bruises and cuts than ever, but that didn’t stop me. After practice, I would come home to the smell of my mom’s cooking which was around dinner time. It was extremely hard for me because during those times I needed to lose weight. I wanted to go back to my old weight class, 106. To achieve this, I would limit my food consumption. I would have two hard boiled eggs for breakfast, a salad for lunch, and a piece of toast with sunbutter spread for dinner. I took sips of water throughout the day, but not a lot. In the end, I made it back to my old weight class and got the opportunity to wrestle at CCS again. It took a lot of hard work and commitment, such as starving, excessive exercise, and sweating. I managed to place 6th at CCS, which was a huge accomplishment for me. Although, I ended up with a cut and a purplish bruise near the corner of my eye I thought to myself I finally did
