Stewart began with a casual use of irony in the form of sarcasm to mock the perspective of white slave owners who relegate work to their black slaves who “were lazy and idle” even though the lifestyle which their black slaves sustain allows the laziness and idleness of the slave owners themselves. Her use of figurative language, which appealed to pathos, emphasized the long toil for freedom which likens the slaves’ tired spirit to their tired bodies which the white abolitionists have never experienced: “I reply to it, the whites have so long and proudly proclaimed the theme of equal rights and privileges, that our souls have caught the flame also, ragged as we are.” Although the white abolitionists preach equality and privilege for all, the
Guns need to be controlled. From the mass shooting in Newton, Connecticut that killed twenty-seven people, twenty of whom were faultless children at Sandy Hook Elementary, to nine people gunned down during Bible study in Charleston, South Carolina at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church, guns have proven to be an extreme political problem. Bryson Esplin Mr. Johansen ENG 101 1 February 2023 Rhetorical Analysis of Julie Petersen’s “Analysis Essay: Is Macbeth A Tragic Hero?” One true problem with writing posted to the internet is the inability to prove what, if anything, is true or credible. With common phrases such as “Don’t believe everything you read” and “Fake news,” it has become more important than ever to know what articles are reliable. One example of a source that claims to be trustworthy but is questionable at best is the website AskPetersen.com. Julie Petersen, who runs the website, claims to have everything to help readers “write a perfect essay” (Petersen, “Blog”).
Emma Marris uses many types of persuasive elements in her essay “Emma Marris: In Defense of Everglade Pythons”. In her writing she persuades her readers that the pythons should be allowed to be in the everglades since it is not their fault that they are there in the first place. She uses metaphors to relate to the reader and word choice to enhance her writing.
Margeret Thatcher, former prime minister of Great Britain in 2004, delivered a eulogy at Ronald Reagan's funeral to the American people in honor of him. In his enlightening and illuminating commencement address given at Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on May 19, 2018, Jason Reynolds emotionally persuades and informs the graduates at the college through the use of anecdotes and metaphors to show that ignoring the significant problems of the world will not help us fix them. To strengthen his speech, Reynolds uses past personal experiences and the comparison of objects to others to help prove the theme portrayed throughout the speech.

Stockett uses pathos, ethos, and logos in her book, since the book about social injustice. The topics in the book range from inequality of the sexes to social classes and racism, Stockett is successful in getting the reader to reflect while reading the book and the themes of the book have a clear presence. We see Stockett use ethos and pathos in the very first chapters when we learn that Hilly doesn't like Minny and Minny doesn't want to say why at first, but the incident with Ms. Holbrook was affecting her chances of getting a job because of the influence Hilly has over this suburban society. She proved to be a sociopath because she would lie manipulate, hurt others, not very organized and she was very charming towards Susanna. Lisa was product of her environment.
