Cross-training is athletic training in sports other than the athlete's usual sport. The goal is improving overall performance. It takes advantage of the particular effectiveness of one training method to negate the shortcomings of another.
Rowing is a sport which takes place on water and requires either a crew or a single athlete to propel a boat across water.
Unlike track and Field competition, rowers race over a standard distance of 2000 metres in combinations of 1,2,4 or 8 athletes. Races generally last five and a half to seven minutes, during which time athletes generate tremendous muscular forces to maintain an "all out" effort. The ability to maintain this "all out" effort places great demands on the rower’s muscles and joints.
