Biome Description:
The Savanna is one of many biomes in the world. It is characterized by its warm climate, lack of rain, grasslands, and its scattering of small trees and bushes. Many people see the Savanna as a midway point of a tropical rainforest and a desert.
Climate and Location: Savanna biomes are located near the equator, therefore the climate, for the most part, is very warm. Ironically, this biome has very dry winters but very wet summers. During the winter season only an estimated 4” of rain falls. Despite the rain in the summer, the climate is still a bit cooler during the winter. For a Savanna, a temperature of 70℉ is considered cold. On average, about 15-25 inches of rain water falls during the summer. Due to this, the air

However, the few plants that are able to live in the savanna have adaptations to help them live in a dry area. Some of these examples include having longer roots to absorb more water and less amount of leaves to preserve as much moisture as possible. The Baobab is a type of tree found in the Savanna that has an adaptation to store water inside its trunk. Other plants and trees found in the Savanna include Beech tree, Marula tree, Raisin Bush, etc.
Dominant Animals and their Adaptations The Savanna is home to a variety of animals. Such animals include elephants, zebras, lions, hyenas, rhinos, giraffes, and any other animal you can think of from the movie
Lion King. During the summer most of the wildlife is able to flourish due to the amount of rain it receives. However, summer can only last so long. During the winter the temperature is almost unbearable. Water becomes very scarce, meaning that little vegetation grows. Low vegetation means low food availability. Because of this, most of the the animals living the Savanna migrate to a different location. Once the climate improves the animals return to their previous
