Yakin's Use Of Verbal Techniques In The Film

127 Words1 Pages
When we first encounter Gerry, he seems be quite narrow-minded. Yakin uses a verbal technique in the film by using a metaphor. We see this technique in the scene when Gerry sees the new black assistant coach Herman Boone in the head coaches office. Gerry then says, ‘I ain’t playing with those black animals’. The metaphor is meaning to call the new black players on the team ‘animals’. When Gerry says this the camera shot is a close up on his face suggesting that Gerry is trying to be intimidating. From this scene we know that Gerry will be an important character because he is egocentric and does not want to associate himself with players of another colour which will cause him a lot of unnecessary trouble.
