The U.S., England, and the USSR were allies during WWII helping each other to beat Germany. At Yalta it was agreed that the big three plus France would assist in helping rebuild Germany. At Potsdam the USSR asked for a buffer zone between the USSR and European countries. What was the Marshall Plan? Why did the US want to spend this kind of money on W. Europe? What was the Soviet reaction? The Marshall plan was to help the Europe by providing aid to spend on American goods in order to help rebuild their economy. What were Truman’s options? Was the airlift successful? While the other allied countries were helping their zones in Germany, the Soviet Union was not giving any aid to Germany, so many East Germans started going to west Germany. Stalin's answer was to blockade East and West Berlin. Truman could destroy the wall, and probably start WWIII or send aid by air. Picking the air lift. Truman saved thousands of lives, and eventually made Stalin take down the wall because they did not have the moral high ground.
Who was Mao? Chiang Kai-Shek? Who did the US side with? What threat did Mao pose to the US?
Mao was the leader of the communist party in China, Chiang was the leader of the nationalist party. The U.S. sided with Chiang, by giving him aid. Mao posed a threat by supporting communism, and helps make other countries communist as well.
What were the principles set forth in the Truman Doctrine? How were these principles tested by the Soviets? Truman’s Doctrine stated it would help any country in need of help to fend off a foreign country from taking over. For example, in Egypt both the Soviets, and the U.S. tried to assist
