Truman wanted to believe that we can support people in any country, he believed that everyone should be free to do what they wanted to do with in the laws. During World War two he was under pressure to decide if we were going to help. He wanted to help Greece and Turkey out and give them rights as citizens. He didn’t want to see the Soviet Union expand any further then it was. He wanted provide assistance to turkey and to Greece.

United States couldn’t handle another World War economically. It would put us in a depression once again that we were on the way of recouping from. Some people may say we were already healed but it takes time for a complete recovery.
On the downside to the doctrine there was an increase in violence after the announcement of the doctrine in Greece (Poulos, C. (1947).) Even though it is continued today it isn’t a communist party anymore running the show. It did set out to do what it was meant to. There is no more communist parties. Truman was worried that the Cold War would start the next big war and it would be a complete destruction of all countries.
Truman only wants what every president before and after him wants a peaceful nation and good relations for the rest the world. In providing aide to Greece and Turkey he was able to establish a treaty of some sorts to open up trade and help their economy boost. In all the research and reading the actual document it help to see what he wanted. It was a hard time in the
