The story of Yankee Doodle is a well known story and has a catchy song to it too. You probably remember it as a kid but in the story “The Scarlet Ibis” one of the characters is named Doodle but the story isn't what you think it is. Doodle had a brother that wanted to teach him how to do thing to become more like a normal person because Doodle had this illness from birth. Brother was a good brother to Doodle for trying to help him become a normal person. Brother spent countless hours to try to help Doodle walk and become a normal person. Brother took a lot of his own time to help teach Doodle things like to walk. Everyone said that Doodle would never be able to stand up, but brother was tired of lugging doodle everywhere so he taught him how to walk. ”I'm going to teach you to walk doodle”(Hurst 2). Brother was not going to let doodle stand out from everyone so he taught him many things like how to swim, walk, and row a boat. Doodle meant a lot to brother so brother wanted to help teach him things.”I gave him swimming lessons or showed him how to row a boat. Sometimes we descended into the cool greenness of Old Woman Swamp and climbed the rope vines or boxed scientifically beneath the pine where he had learned to walk”(Hurst 4). Brother took Doodle under his wing so he could teach him thing to become more of a normal person. Doodle learned how to row a boat, swim, and many more things by having brother teach him how to do it all. With brother teaching Doodle how to do things they always liked to go to Old Woman Swamp to hang out and play. Doodle just meant so much to brother that brother just wanted to help out any way he can with Doodle. This is how much brother would do for Doodle to teach him to be more like a normal
