Yellow Star: Types of Jewish Resistance

In the year 1933, January 30th, the event know as the “Holocaust” started. The Holocaust was the massacre of 6 million Jewish people at the hand of a psychotic man named Adolf Hitler. The Holocaust ended with any remaining Nazis being sent to jail and camps. However, the Jewish men, women, and children did not kneel to the Germans; the Jewish people fought against Nazi command even though it meant death. The most common form of resistance during the Holocaust was organized crime. Organized crime is exactly what it says, people (mainly jews) join together and plan an illegal activity. In late April/ early May, 1943 Jewish people in the Warsaw ghetto put up an armed revolt after rumors went around saying that Nazis were deporting Jews to the Treblinka extermination camp.(United States Holocaust Memorial Museum) The jews threw molotov cocktails and hand grenades at tanks destroying them and killing some Nazis. The Nazis were puzzled about this and didn’t realize what was going on, they sooner retaliated and killed many of the jews. Another rebellion at Treblinka in August, 1943 and Sobibor in October, 1943. The jews stole weapons from the guards and fought back but only lasted for so long until more and more Nazis came.
