The average age of a bride today is about 27 years old (www.dailydot.com), and the success rate for a successful marriage out of highschool is only 2% (www.huffingtonpost.com). In the play Romeo and Juliet Romeo is under 18 and Juliet is only 13. What could go wrong? For instance, the intense rivalry and feuding between Romeo’s family and Juliet’s family tore them apart and do desperate things to stay together. Romeo also kills Juliet’s cousin Tybalt soon after they marry and their story escalates into an intense conflict and Romeo is forcibly exiled. In fact Juliet even goes as far as to poison herself to attempt to protect their young marriage. This is a show of how dramatic young love can be when the chance if it going anywhere is very small. The play Romeo and Juliet is a story of how their rushed young love is torn apart by the feud and fighting between the Montague and Capulet families. With the feud between Romeo and Juliets opposite families, one could say that their young love is set up to fail before it even begins. The Capulets from Juliet’s side of the family and the Montagues from Romeo’s dislike each other with a passion. This makes it difficult for Romeo and Juliet to see each other. This also forces them to marry in secret by Friar Lawrence. In the beginning of the play Romeo confesses his love to Juliet to a friend. He tells him to find another girl to love because he himself knows that their love could never work, but he cannot forget her.
