Yves Henri Donat Mathieu Saint Laurent was born into a very loving family. His father’s last words were “Where’s Yves?” He had a very happy childhood. He was born on the first of August, in 1936 in Algeria, and his whole family was there. His full last name was Mathieu Saint Laurent, however, he eventually dropped the Mathieu. From a young age, he was helping his family with fashion. Yves went to a private school and had a very difficult time socially. He was surrounded by other boys with more money and more friends than him. His homosexuality became known when he was a teenager, and it was hard for him to gain acceptance with those his own age because of it. When he was a teenager, he told his whole family that his “name will be in gold on the Champs Élysées.” When he was younger, Yves Saint Laurent would pretend he owned a couture house. He dressed up paper dolls in designs that he created. His passion for fashion started at a young age.

He designed the entire campaign for his fragrance, Opium, to create scandal. Saint Laurent created the peacoat and considered it an essential to a women’s wardrobe. He also created a safari jacket, which is a derivative of a trench coat. His favorite color was black, and then after black, it was pink. Yves Saint Laurent knew from the start that he had no intention of creating couture that could only be worn by certain people. He wanted fashion to be accessible by everyone. He was not as soft spoken as everyone thought. He was iron willed when something needed to get done. He worked hard on his designs, often to the point of over-exhausting
