I selected fashion designer Marc Jacobs for my ready-to-wear. Jacobs was born in New York City, April 9, 1963. Jacob’s life had completely changed when his father had died from ulcerative colitis, Jacob was only seven years of age. Jacob’s mom responded poorly of Jacob’s dad’s death taking on a new life by bringing in several men, followed by several failed marriages, which caused serious problems with Jacob’s family. Jacob and his siblings had moved several times going from New Jersey, Long Island, and the Bronx from their mothers remarriages. When Jacob was a teenager, he decided to make his own decision moving in with his grandmother on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. At age 15 Jacobs focused on pursuing his dreams attending the High School of Art and Design during the day, wanting to become and important designer; at night Jacobs worked at Charivari and upscale clothing boutique, West 57th street, New York. Charivari allowed Jacobs, their stock boy, who's job was folding clothes and dressing mannequins, to design sweaters for their store. January 1997, Jacobs was named creative director of Louis Vuitton, where he created the house’s first ready-to-wear clothing collection. LVMH, “Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy,” bought a share of Jacobs’ company, giving Jacob the opportunity to expand his business while not having to worry about finances. Marc by Marc Jacobs, was Jacobs second line that was introduced spring of 2011. Ten years in the making of being a creative director, Jacobs quadrupled profits making Louis Vuitton’s company top of the line. Jacobs really transformed the house of Louis Vuitton making it the hottest luxury brand in the universe. Like most celebrities, Jacobs went though a drug and alcohol addiction not once but twice, once in 1999 and the second time in 2007. Jacobs thought of himself as a “taller, funnier, smarter, cooler Jacobs,” when he was drunk. (Vogue, 2014, p.1). Jacobs received the CFDA’s prestigious Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement award in June of 2011.
