I am writing to tell you of a life changing event I have had. I do not believe I will ever be the same and I need to share this with you, my closest friend and hunting partner.

As you have most likely realized, I fell off the boat after I stayed out to smoke and found myself stranded in the Caribbean Sea. I started swimming toward gunshot sounds and reached “Ship-Trap Island” where I came upon a mansion. I was greeted by a Cossack general named Zaroff, who treated me in a fine manner for quite a while, but it was a spurious act. Zaroff started telling me about himself- how he hunted animals in all countries until that bored him. He wanted to hunt to provide more pleasure and danger, so he was looking for an animal that could reason. Zaroff explained how he hunted the humans, a game of sorts, and invited (or rather forced) me to “play” with him. Naturally, I ran for my life and started dodging Zaroff circumspectly by using some of the hunting strategies we have learned over the years, being anything but cumbersome. I found myself in a dilemma as I only managed to mainly hurt Zaroff and one of his hounds, until Zaroff’s sidekick, Ivan, was killed by “a native trick [I] had learned in Uganda” (234). After that I bolted toward the ocean and threw myself in. While General Zaroff was sulking over his loss of prey, as he was usually such a perennial man, I swam to his mansion and hid in his room.
