Zechariah was a levite who was born in the city of babylon and was the son of a priest, making him possibly a priest. (Bible) Throughout the books of the bible we hear of Zechariah's’ name 26 different times, but we only hear about Zechariah the prophet in chapters 5 and 6 of Erza in the Old Testament. (Bible) The Name Zechariah means “Yahweh Remembers.” (Bible) He is called this because God knows that there is always hope for the people of Israel throughout many difficult times they encountered. (Bible) Zechariah began to prophesize from 520-518 BCE. in Jerusalem while he was a young man, which was the same years that the prophet Haggai preached. (ABP) His Prophecies also looked far into the future, which prophesized the Jewish people getting exiled again by the Babylonians. (ABP) Some of his specific prophecies said that Jerusalem would become a battleground of nations, many Jewish people would be persecuted for their belief, and that Jerusalem would become the religious capital of the world. (ABP) Zechariah was also chosen by God to convince the jewish people to rebuild the Temple in Jerusalem once again, Zechariah realized that without the Temple the Jewish religion would die. (ABP) During the time of Cyrus I, the jewish people returned to Jerusalem after being exiled. (Bible) After they returned from the exile, construction of the Temple began and was finished in 516 BCE as Zechariah had Prophesized. (Bible) Many scholars have agreed with the theory that 1st and 2nd Zechariah were the same person, but there is no way to prove this theory. They thought they were the same people because his name was not mentioned at all in chapters 9- 14, the last 6 chapters lack any dates, and that there is no statement saying that the Temple was …show more content…

(Bible) The second message Zechariah spoke about is that he proclaimed the advent of Yahweh , or in other words, the coming of Jesus Christ. (TMOTP) One of hs main prophecies talks about the rebuilding of the Temple, which God had commanded him to preach about. (Bible) Unlike Haggai he preached about how God was into our lives as well, not only the temple. (Bible Hub) He was commanded by God to get the Israelites back on their feet after they returned from the exile, because they were uncertain about what their future lies. (Bible) Another one of his prophecies states that the Jewish religion would be spread throughout the world. (Bible) We can see that this prophecy was fulfilled, with the mass number of Jewish people around the world today. (Bible) Zechariah was able to obtain people's attention with his apocalyptic writing, which he spoke through visions, mysterious knowledge of the future, and extensive symbolism. (TNCE) Not only was his ministry focused on the construction of the Temple and it’s liturgy, he also focused on ministering the homeless, orphans, and widows. (TNCE) Throughout the first eight chapters of the Book of Zechariah he explains eight different visions, which were written in apocalyptic literature.
