The tenth National President, Dorothy I. Height, wrote: “To preserve tradition, we must bring it into the current decade and make sure it remains viable for decades to come.” Protocol is something mandatory for all sorority’s and fraternity’s. In Delta Sigma Theta protocol is prescribed as respect and recognition for founders, the Nation President and Past National Presidents, the Regional Director/Representative, Chapter Charter Members, and Honorary Members. It is a fact that every Sorority and Fraternity has some type of tradition. In Delta Sigma Theta there are three rites of passage.
Good morning Hollie, It was a pleasure meeting you at Women Who Brunch this weekend. Thank you for considering purchasing an advertisement for the Ms. Phi Beta Sigma Scholarship Pageant at the University of Houston. In preparation for this pageant I have been challenging myself to explore service in ways I have not before by hosting empowerment projects in both the Chicago and Houston metropolitan areas. Just recently, I partnered with the Chicago clothing line, Almvghty to raise money for an anti violence youth program on the city 's south side. Since November, I have been leading a African American literature club with Project Row House 's Third Ward College Bound Program.
The purpose of this paper is to review and analyze student cultures in the book Pledged: The Secret Life of Sororities, by Alexandra Robbins. The book provides a glimpse of the historically white national sorority system and investigates their secret group behavior. In the United States and Canada, approximately 800 institutions host social Greek Life on their campuses (Long, 2012). These chapters within the Greek Life system promote the ideals of scholarship, leadership, service, and friendship. However, in the Robbins’ book and narrative of a sorority illustrates sorority life and negative realities of that system, such as rush, bid, racism, pledging, initiation, Greek Week, breaks-up and sexual assaults.
Michael McCarter, Todd Stevenson and an unknown Pi Tau brother stepped forward, the latter holding a video camera. Stevenson spoke first, his voice pleasant and inviting. “Welcome to the final day of Hell Week, gentlemen. You are one task away from becoming members of the most elite fraternity on campus. Congratulations on making it this far.”
Hi Katie, Just checking in to see if you had a chance to review your calendars and see if there is a time that works best for both you and Mary Sue. I have a few scheduled meetings next week, but I am free all day Tuesday (August 2nd) or Thursday (August 4th). Let me know if there is an opening and I can swing by or we can also meet somewhere else if that is preferred. Thanks!

Roethke’s My Papas Waltz Many literary scholars, researchers and readers in general, driven by intrigue, have tried to dissect, analyze, and interpret the ambiguous meaning of Theodore Roethke’s poem, “My Papa’s Waltz.” Their explications however, result in ambivalent, and sometimes controversial views. Some critics argue that “My Papas Waltz,” portrays the physical violence inflicted by a father to his child.
Spirit Week in Ronald Reagan High School is typically a great time to have some unique fun with friends, while also being a time to pridefully represent yourself as an amusing member of the student body. Since freshman year I have thoroughly enjoyed the idea of a Spirit Week, but I also appreciated the idea that the students of Reagan get to contribute to the Spirit Week days almost directly. Traditionally, Student Council and the members within it are the ones who think of the clever Spirit Week plans, and ordinarily the execution is fantastic. Yet this year there has been a serious rise in tension considering the student body's views on one of the Spirit Week Days.
As Allan Johnson explained in The Forest and the Trees, “norms are ideas about how people behave and appear” (Johnson 2008:45). Whereas values are guiding forces behind norms and influence how we see the world and how we choose between two alternatives (Johnson 2008). Alpha Phi’s values are sisterhood, service, scholarship, leadership, loyalty, and character development. Some shared norms associated with being a member of Alpha Phi are respecting the six pillars, attending Chapter, attending sisterhood events, and participating in community service activities. In addition to norms and values, Alpha Phi has its own symbols.
To the women of the grad chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, Incorporated: The purpose of this letter is to inform you of my interest in becoming a member of the grad chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, Incorporated. My desire to inspire young men and women and make a significant impact on their lives is just one of many reasons I aspire to join your great sorority. While growing up at a young age my mom worked out of my sibling lives. I did not have many positive female role models I could look to for guidance in different situations.
David S. Williams, I. (2008). Inside greek u: Fraternities, sororities, and the pursuit of pleasure, power, and prestige (review). Journal of College Student Development, 49(6), 637-639 Hirsch, K. (1990, 09). Fraternities of fear.
“Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave, I am the dream and the hope of the slave. I rise, I rise, I rise.,” to become a Delta Woman. When asked to express why I should be awarded the honor & pleasure of being apart this great sorority; I must admit I was a bit overwhelmed but also very humbled. However, I am reminded of the great women Delta Sigma Theta has helped mold some of the most influential women in the world. I want to be apart of the most illustrious sorority organization.
