Introduction The purpose of the science experiment is to determine the characteristics of the Zika virus by using Basic Local Alignment Search Tool (BLAST). The use of BLAST sequencing is essential to efficiently determine if there are any malformations in the genome caused by lysogenic cycles of virus, viroids, and prions. BLAST will help detect the change in the base pair sequence which allows quick yet accurate results of the virus. The experiment will also be used to compare the Zika virus with its counterparts among the world since there is a possibility of mutation occurring within the virus. Lastly, the experiment will also determine if the Zika virus links or causes any other diseases. As a result, BLAST will aid in the quick comparison of genome sequencing for the Zika virus. By determining the genome sequence, BLAST will help determine future diseases embedded into …show more content…

According to recent evolutionary development, the Zika virus has three lineages: West African, East African, and Asian. The Asian lineage is the one responsible for the outbreak in the Americas. The Asian lineage of the Zika virus had its origin during the migration from Africa to Southeast Asia in which the virus was detected in Malaysia. The virus has then spread to the Pacific Islands, Yap and French Polynesia, New Caledonia, Cook Islands, Easter Islands, and eventually the Americas. The Zika virus is transmitted to humans through a bite of an infected mosquito namely the A. aegypti and A. albopictus, both from the Aedes genus. Aedes mosquitoes are located globally, but are native to warm and sub-tropical regions. As a result, the native habitat of the Aedes mosquitoes can be the cause of the first Zika virus in Uganda since the country is located near the equator, allowing the climate to be tropical. Not to mention, other modes of transmission of the virus include congenital, perinatal, and
