In the article, “Zombie Studies Gain Ground on College Campuses,” reporter for the Wall Street Journal Erica E. Phillips writes about the growing popularity of the zombie sensation in academia. Her article was very informative about how zombies are being incorporated in college classes. It was a very well put article and included facts from not only the author herself, but from cited sources. I agree with the author in saying that zombies should be studied on college campuses. I say this because not only do zombies have a huge influence in pop culture nowadays, zombies can also be used in almost every field in academics and having the knowledge from studying zombies can be applied in real life situations.

For instance, Christopher Moreman, a philosophy professor at California State University, worked the theme of zombies in his course titled: “Philosophy 3432: Religion, Monsters, and Horror”. In that class, students watch zombie movies, looking out for Buddhist imagery. Another example includes how Steve Jones, a senior lecturer at England’s Northumbria University, “seeks to investigate zombie sexuality in all its forms and manifestations” (Phillips 215). Max Brooks, writer of popular books such as The Zombie Survival Guide and World War Z, says he would like to see the steps it takes to survive a zombie apocalypse if one were to happen. He would like to “take that knowledge and apply it to the real world” (Phillips 215). For instance, knowing how to prepare for a zombie apocalypse can be beneficial in life. You can learn key survival skills. Knowing how to start a fire during an apocalypse is essential to survival. You can cook food, boil water, and keep yourself warm. You can also learn how to defend yourself. Defending yourself from zombies is a must if zombies’ takeover. Knowing how to defend yourself from zombies can ultimately help you defend yourself from dangerous things and people in the real world.
