Misguided Thoughts There are many different ways to end a story by including the way the plot is driven from one direction to the other while keeping the suspense in motion. The writer often surprises the reader with something completely different than what was expected to happen in the events of the storyline. A twist can be manipulated in the story to prevent any obvious predictions to disclose any further revelations in the plot. The use of a plot twist can come in different ways, such as revealing a little bit of the character traits, while other times the twist can be subtle by altering the beliefs of the reader through misconception towards the ending of the story. In the film “Dolores Claiborne” by Stephen King introduces the main character Dolores Claiborne as a domestic servant who also has personal problems in her life that revolves around her struggles with her sick elderly employer Vera Donavan, her abusive husband Joe St. George, and her estranged daughter Selena St. George. Dolores character bounces back and forth between the past and present as it details the long untold history of her terrible relationship with her husband and her employer Vera Donavan. In the beginning of the film you see Dolores Claiborne looking down on Vera as she lays injured at the bottom of the staircase while Dolores has a rolling pin in her hand, however she is caught just in time when the mailman shows up and says “what have you done…oh my God you killed her,” the reader would suggest Dolores wanted to murder her. As the film moves forward you see Dolores unwrapping a bottle that says Black & White Scotch Whisky. For a moment she seems to be lost in her own thoughts as if she remembers something important that deals with that whisky bottle. The reader doesn’t know how significant the bottle will be in the film. As the film develops, Dolores has a flashback of her husband coming home from work, yet at first it appears they are a happy family until Joe hits his wife for making fun of his ripped pants.
