Introduction Seventh-day Adventism is a relatively small Christian denomination created in the United States in the mid 19th century. The religion’s history begins with William Miller who predicted that the second coming of Jesus would occur on October 22, 1844 (Cloud, 2013). The awaiting of Jesus’ second coming is the basis of the religion, and the movement itself is called Adventism, hence the religion’s name (Catholic Answers, 2014). Another integral aspect of the religion is the celebration
The Seventh-day Adventist church started when a Baptist preacher named William Miller studied the prophecy of Daniel 8:14. His study led to finding the date of the second coming of Jesus Christ-October 22, 1844. Many believers felt a deep sorrow when Jesus did not appear. This time in history was to be called “the Great Disappointment.” Most of the followers felt hopeless, while a small group refused to give up. Feeling the presence of God, the group stood their ground and decided to dig deeper.
I recently received a notification of the job opening at the Wasatch Hills Seventh-day Adventist church and could not help but become deeply inspired and interested in the position. Over the past few months, I have been in deep thought about how to best serve the Lord as I end my journey here at the seminary. None of the positions that I have seen have really moved me strongly until I saw this one; it is the perfect niche of where I believe I could be of service. I have a deep passion for youth
Doss sat. Though tempted by nearby grenades and a fairly easy kill, Doss decided to risk his own life and let these supposed “devils” live yet another day. Not once, in all of his years serving the United States Army, did Desmond Doss take the life of another. From the time he was born, he was brought up as a kind and caring Seventh-day Adventist who firmly believed in Jesus Christ. Known as a conscientious objector, Doss not only refused to kill, but also refused to touch a single weapon when he
The 1993 tragedy that occurred in Waco, Texas is a testament to the tension that exists between radical religious believers and the federal government. David Koresh of the Branch Davidians believed in the fulfillment of the Seven Seals as described in the Holy Bible as the sign of the end of the world and the second coming of Jesus Christ. Branch Davidians chose to live simple lives different from the norm by selling all possessions and contributing all profits to the compound, living with fellow

David Koresh is the well-known Waco siege prophet. Questions and conspiracies float in the air till this day about this suspicious prophet. This prophet took things to the next level when it came to the bible and his religion. Many think he took it too far? On August 17, 1959, in Houston Texas David Koresh was brought into this world by his mother Bonnie Sue Clark. His mother had him at a very early age. David’s early childhood life was very tough. He later moved in with his grandparents after
Bible was in Gen 2. Gen 2:2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. Gen 2:3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made. God completed the creation, rested on the 7th day, and blessed that day. This is our template for the seven-day week, observed around the world to this day. From there “Seven” became a special number

The Pilgrim Progress is a Christian allegory written by John Bunyan in 1678. In this story, John Bunyan used many different symbols to describe hidden meanings. Symbolism is the use of any certain special figures or marks of identification to signify a religious message, for example the cross refers to Jesus Christ and the Christian faith. The author, John Bunyan, used symbolism to describe characters and places and give them a meaning behind it. One of the symbols the author used was Mr. Worldly
That belief was the heart of People’s Temple, and it kept the church going even as its leader descended into madness. The Branch Davidian’s vision, in contrast, is completely rooted in The Bible. They envision themselves living in a heaven on Earth achieved after the second coming of Christ and the defeat of the beast
Some religious individuals categorize the concept of being a “good Christian”, even though they do not practice the religion. However, they go to church which they believe classifies them as Christians. The concept of encountering something supernatural or maybe miraculous, for instance, encountering a filthy angel, can become a difficult task. An angel who appears not to exceed the expectation of individuals as a result of society exemplifying what an angel should resemble is part of “A Very
monarch who founded the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Strangite), a faction of the Latter Day Saint movement. A major contender for leadership of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints during the 1844 succession crisis, Strang vied with Brigham Young and Sidney Rigdon for control of the main body of Latter Day Saints in Nauvoo, Illinois before his rejection by that group led him to start his own sect. While serving as Prophet, Seer and Revelator of his church—which he claimed to
people who practice Mormonism and represent the principle branch of the Church of Latter Day Saints (Heaton, 1992). The Mormon society is very communal and family traditions makeup a large part of the society’s norms. Geographically, the Mormon movement began with Joseph Smith in upstate New York in the 1820s but quickly moved to the Utah Territory in the mid-19th century and thus the center of Mormon culture resides in present day Utah (Heaton, 1992). Mormon culture and society place a high value on
Mormonism: The Supposed Restoration of the True Church Mormonism is the highly controversial religious practice of the supposed restoration of the true church of the Christian God. Though the history of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints has not been verified, it has led to Mormonism being called the “covenant of caring”, and fourteen million members giving their faith and time to their church, its beliefs and rituals, temples, and supposedly, God Himself (“Mormonism: What is Mormonism
When Joseph Smith, founder of the Mormon Church of Jesus Christ and Latter-day Saints, asked God which Christian denomination he should join, he claimed that God said “they were all wrong” and that “their creeds were an abomination to [my] sight” (Smith). By sharing his discovery, Smith incited violent persecution
Joseph Smith claimed he was curious why the old testament prophets had many wives and asked God about it and received the revelation on plural marriage. The old testament prophets did not have many wives. Abraham had one wife, Isaac had one wife and Jacob had two wives. Abraham had one intimate relationship with Hagar, Sarah’s handmaid and produced a son Ishmael. Isaac only had one wife and no handmaids. Jacob was tricked into marrying two daughters of Laban, his mother’s brother and they each

FLDS ranch in Texas. The LDS church started an initiative after the raid to distinguish itself from many polygamous groups that are all said to be under Mormon faith. The LDS church decided to employ people to monitor media coverage; the church found Russian and Mexican outlets incorrectly referred the FLDS church for being the same as the LDS church. The LDS church also did not appreciate the picture of the LDS temple that was printed with a story about the FLDS church. Cragun and Nielson (2009) indicate
prayed and felt immoral powers fighting him. He was then rescued by a bright light, thus was Smith’s first vision and the light of the start of it all. In the bright light he claims that God and angels appeared before him telling him to not join any church because none of the churches had all the truth and that they also had work for him. Later Joseph was visited by an angel who led him to plates and the start of it all started to begin and arise.
