Barriers are factors that prevent an individual from getting access to a health, care and early years’ service. In the case of early years, a pupil would have many barriers preventing them from accessing school and things within the school. There are 6 main different types of barriers. These are; Geographical, Financial, Resource, Psychological, Cultural and language, and physical.
Physical barriers are barriers that prevent a pupil from accessing the school because of physical aspects. For example a disabled pupil that has a wheelchair may not be able to go around the school and access the school properly as well as being unable to access school furniture etc. This barrier affects mainly pupils that are blind, deaf, or suffer from disability …show more content…

A pupil could be prevented from doing something because the cost is too much financially. For example if the school is holding an educational trip but a pupil cannot afford it due to high cost, so they won’t be able to attend and may miss out intellectually, or if the school lunch is too expensive then a student won’t get the essential food they need to be able to learn with full concentration at school etc. Another example could be if school clothing like the uniform or a P.E kit is too expensive, so they cannot afford that fully either. This can also affect a pupil psychologically as they may be scared of being bullied or may develop anxiety issues. Finally, another example could also be if a child cannot afford breakfast at home. Considering that breakfast is one of most important meals of the day, this can affect a pupil mentally and they won’t. A way the school can help overcome this issue is by holding fundraising events to raise money for pupils that cannot afford school uniform, trips etc. Schools could also begin to provide free school meals for children of low income families so that their child can still have lunch at school without the added expensive cost. This means that they will be able to learn as normal and pay attention without being hungry and distracted during classes. To tackle the problem of a lack of breakfast due to costs, the school can hold breakfast clubs just before school starts in the morning, so that pupils can attend and have breakfast at
