Within the 1999 romance/comedy, directed by Gil Junger, 10 Things I Hate About You, Kat and Bianca Stratford are siblings that are polar opposites. Kat is very antisocial while Bianca is not. They’re dad, Walter Stratford, made a rule that Bianca can’t do anything unless Kat does it as well, this includes dating. Bianca found this unfair, so she made a plan to get Patrick to ask Kat out. They talked for a while until she figured out the plan Bianca made. This infuriated her and she stopped talking to Patrick. What she didn’t know was that Patrick actually liked her. She then wrote a poem about him for her class assignment. Kat admits, “But mostly I hate the way I don't hate you. Not even close, not even a little bit, not even at all.” By saying “...Not even close, not even a little bit, not even at all” she slowly confesses to Patrick. Towards the beginning of the poem Kat states how much she hates Patrick and what she hates about him, but in the end she proves to Patrick that she doesn’t hate him. This is important to Kat because she doesn’t want to admit that she likes him because of his previous actions. Kat also uses repetition during her poem to emphasize her hatred for the things Patrick does. Kat angrily states, “I hate it when you're not around.
