Should teenage girls between the ages of 12 and 18 be allowed to receive birth control without consent from their parents?
Many teenage girls today are teen mothers, HIV positive, have STDs, or are sexually active with no knowledge about birth control. Birth control is often needed and is used by the teenage population.
Without birth control products teenage pregnancy rates would be higher than they are today. Teenage girls between the ages of 12 and 18 should be allowed to receive birth control without the consent of their parents due to the lack of communication within a teenage girl and parent relationship, teenage confidentiality, and lack of effective parenting skills.

When teenage girls don’t feel comfortable talking with their parents about sex, they turn amongst their peers and friends for advice. For example parents who work on a daily basis may not have enough time to take interest in their teenage daughter’s sexual health or even ask what she is feeling as a person.

Secondly, teenage girls between the ages of 12 and 18 should be able to receive birth control without the consent of their parents because some teenage girls who are sexually active tend to know more about sex than their parents and keep it a secret. With this being said, the teenage girl may be putting herself at risk of getting pregnant or contracting HIV or STDs. For example a teenage girl that is sexually active and not taking any type of birth control or utilizing the methods she has a higher chance of becoming pregnant than a girl who is on birth control or using contraceptives. Birth control products for some teenage girls may also even out their female hormones throughout their bodies.

In addition to the lack of communication within a teenager and parent relationship and teenage teen confidentiality, teenage girls between the ages of 12 and 18 should have the right to receive
