First, the history of Devils Lake starts in prehistoric times. According to OnMilwaukee, an online news system, historians believe that during prehistoric times Devils Lake is now what it is because of glacial activity. Years ago, Devils Lake was surrounded in huge mountain ranges but through weathering and erosion has created the breathtaking bluffs and the large body of water there is today. One popular theory scientist have about Devils Lake is that years ago the Wisconsin River flowed through the gorge but the water became trapped between the glaciers. Over time the water trapped between the two glaciers became the well known lake.

The 1936 Berlin Olympics is the most infamous sporting event in history. It was widely thought that Hitler and the Nazis would use this event as propaganda. “Jesse entered the 1936 Olympics, which were held in Nazi Germany amidst the belief by Hitler that the Games would support his belief that the German ‘Aryan’ people were the dominant race” (“Biography”). Despite this knowledge, the United States chose to participate in the Olympics. One of the most famous athletes of the Olympics was Jesse Owens.
The concept of citizenship and belonging is much different in today’s society than it was in 1865 to 1910. The black codes of 1865 were laws of the south basically keeping blacks from full freedom. They did everything possible to keep blacks working for little to nothing. The blacks they are trying to keep down at this point were named the freedmen. The disfranchisement began with Mississippi in 1890, where they took blacks voting rights under something called the Mississippi Plan.
