1968 Mexico City Olympics

The Olympics, what are they? Well they have been around since the 1800’s and are projected every four years so they have to be important, don't they?. These games were staged very first in Olympia Greece starting from 776 BC when “Koroibos” who was a cook from a nearby city won the “Station race” a race that had been 600 feet long and had ended in 393 AD. The ancient games were part of a “religious festival” celebrating the “Father” of the old Greek gods and goddesses. The Greek men and women that came to the Sanctuary of Zeus in Olympia had shared the same religious beliefs and spoke the same language. The modern Olympic torch relay had been first selected at the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin. The Olympic Oath was introduced in the year 1920, along with the athletic contests held in Olympia, there had been a separate festival in honor of Hera, the wife of Zeus. This festival had included “Foot races” for unmarried women. Although it is not known how old the festival was, it is seemed to estimate it may have been almost as old as the festival for boys and men. Unmarried women had a various number of advantages in Olympia. They not only had their own athletic contests of the Hera festival, but they were also allowed to watch the contests for the men and boys of the festival of Zeus. Men and Women continued to pursue in achieving athletic success when being entered into the games, many had been brought in thinking to fight for the gold as they do today, but others had marvelously left with not just the gold, but the attention of the world. The many stories that have remained on top of the radar from the 1900s and have survived till the 21st century are the very ones that count.
