While technology is mainly viewed as useful, we tend to forget it’s possible negative effects on us. Technology can cause mental damage to the user or the one it’s being used on, it can blind us from the real world of important information or events, and it has a chance to fail on the user causing minimal or severe problems.

In the novel, 1984 by George Orwell, although telescreens can be used to communicate and broadcast to others it’s main use is to eliminate the privacy of others. Although Winston, the main character, has always been careful with what he does, he could never get over the constant feeling of being watched. The purpose of the story is to demonstrate how technology can blind us from potential danger with by making our lives easier. In this world, everything seemed nice and controlled by the house as “Nine-fifteen, sang the clock, time to clean. Out of warrens in the wall, tiny robot mice darted. The rooms were awcrawl with the small cleaning animals, all rubber and metal” (Bradbury) however, of the family “Five spots of paint - the man, the woman, the children, the ball - remained. The rest was a charcoal layer” (Bradbury) meaning not all was good in this society. It seems as though the family was going about their day normally however they did not know about the danger that struck them because of the house’s technology to ease their lives and make them feel as though there is no danger. Today people also tend to use their technology such as phones, video games, televisions, and computers ease their minds and forget or ignore their problems or the problems of the
