Brainwashing is a method for systematically changing attitudes or altering beliefs. Not to be confused with mind control, which is the persuasion of somebody's beliefs through re-teaching techniques. However I believe that there is a large gray area that lies within the question, What is the difference between brainwashing and mind control? 1984 by George Orwell takes place in a then-future setting of 1984. Mind control focuses more on replacing somebody's already set beliefs, and through persuasion and advertisements, changes somebody's beliefs towards the topic. The most widespread forms of mind control nowadays are governments. The United States Government has been trying to do exactly that by not releasing details on certain events that have happened in the past. The reason they hold known secrets back from the general public is simple, Some of the things they're working on and have worked on are things that if the public found out about, they probably wouldn't be too happy at the government. This could cause Large uproars amongst civilians of they found out that their government had been lying to them the whole time. I'd like to believe that our government was better than what people are making it out to be. But there is evidence pointing to the fact that they have lied about things and will still tell a false story if brought up today. Nowadays with so much hype around social media and all of the fake news, you don't know what to trust anymore. Social Media has become a whole nother level of discussion for brainwashing and mind control. It even goes far into surveillance on individual people. Every single thing posted on any form of social media can be tracked by the government. Even if you click the delete button on something, they can still get the record of it. In fact, This very essay could be monitored and stored by the government in the trace with my name. You really can't trust anything on the internet nowadays, even if its a credible source. There's also a whole side of the internet strictly focused on advertisements. Amazon, in particular, tracks your history on their website, And then later on that day you will see an ad on a different web page promoting exactly what you were just looking at and related products too. This is proof that one major website already tracks our history and uses it to promote certain things. Now I may have made it out to seem like the internet is a horrible place now, But that isn't entirely true. The internet has allowed people to connect from all over the world almost instantaneously. Be careful with what you put on the internet because whatever data is logged for you, Can and already will be used as advertisements against
