Technology is amazing, everywhere you look, everything you need and use revolves around technology. However, what people don’t know is that the better the technology is getting, the easier it is for the government to track your every move. Everything we research, save and “delete” is sent to a “cloud” where anyone like the government can get to like nothing. Technology in present day society is closely parallel to Orwell’s vision in his novel 1984 for the reason that there is no privacy because of technology. Many writers have pointed out similarities between the modern world and the world of “1984” such as in the articles “That’s No Phone. That’s My Tracker” and “Our Surveillance Society: What Orwell and Kafka Might Say”. George Orwell was an english novelist, essayist, journalist and critic. His writing focuses around a totalitarian society. 1984 is a dystopian novel about a totalitarian government that oppresses its people and controls all aspects of their lives. The society in the novel is ruled by a ruthless dictator called Big Brother who is able to detect each individual by using certain technology similar to today's. It is similar because now and days we don’t have drones peeking through our windows like in 1984 but we do have Indoor Positioning System that allows pinpoint tracking of any Wi-Fi enabled device. This is similar to drones and better in my opinion because this can know exactly where you’re at every second of every day without having to peek through windows. DesMarais says “as such services begin to grow, they might threaten your privacy” (DesMarais, page 1).
