The Purpose In Anna Quindlen’s essay “School’s Out for the Summer”, Anna’s main purpose for writing this essay was to hit points and discuss a huge problem that kids all of this country are facing throughout the summer days. She talks about how children eat at the beginning and middle of a school day but when the summer comes around that’s not always the case and many kids go through the day hungry and feeling as if they’re starving because they were use to being feed at school everyday. “Families are struggling in a way they haven’t done for a long time”.
4-Day school week Should Douglas switch to a four day school week? A four day school week has many pros and cons. Like saving money on transportation or energy costs. Or decreasing school dropout rates. A four day school week has been proposed as a solution to cutback on both fuel and energy costs.
Schoolies week is a festival held on the Gold Coast in Surfers Paradise for year 12 students who have just finished school. The schoolies organisation host different events such as the beach party, the glow party and the movie night. There is a large amount of controversy about weather schoolies week should still be going or not. On those days at school I know that I have to get most of my homework done there because I know that I won’t have enough time when I get home from school to do it before I leave for practice. Also time management has helped me with school work in general. During study hall I know what work I have to do and how much time I need to spend on it so I know that I’ll also have time to do my other work that I may have to do that day.
Because of a four day school week, classes are extended, therefore giving the teachers a longer teaching period. When there is no encouragement, the teenagers often don’t show up to school. The lack of effort correlates to teachers because it could dispirit them from doing work they want to assign in class. Changing to a four day school week can give additional benefits to all parties involved including students, teachers, and the school settings. If a four-day school week was implemented in American school districts, the performance plus achievement for students will increase along with a higher attendance.
They cannot concentrate, especially at school, with too much homework. A student’s mind should stay focused and calm. They should rest, if rest enough so that they can work with energy. The student should be given a certain amount of work so that they can be prepared if a test or an exam is near.
Four-day school weeks have the capability to change student lives. Every school should invest in the four-day school week plan. Implementing this routine would allow teachers more time to teach and give students the option to do their homework during class, in turn creating student success. All of these factors would help to enhance student and faculty life, while promoting success in the classroom. Having a school system run on a four-day rotation would increase their success by offering more opportunities for lesson and work time.
Strauss discusses the issues with a 40 hour five day work week as it relates to sleep disorders. The issues surrounding five day work week cost employers $2000 of production annually for each worker. The movie I have chosen to compare with “Thelma & Louise” is “The Hours”. “The Hours" was evaluated as another great impact after the Sam Mendes that British film made on the American film. Also, I believe the themes of “Thelma & Louise” and “The Hours” are both about women trying to get freedom. “The Hours” is talking about fates of three women in different times that have connected by a book called “Mrs. Dalloway”, written by Virginia Woolf. They are very similar with Thelma and Louise, both looking for freedom.
An average student would spend hours on schoolwork a day, which can be very stressful. A high school student will use half of their day around school relation. Almost all elementary to high school students will likely to agree that homework should not be assigned. The majority of students complain about homework yet teachers don’t usually understand why. While homework gives benefits to students, unnecessary homework should not be assigned due to the fact that there are enough school hours, it consumes time, and the development of poor health is encouraged.
I like to do all my homework perfectly within the due dates, so this thing requires me to forget myself and the break. A lot of times, I feel that the huge amounts of homework cause me a tension. So, I need a really enough time of break. Taking a break for myself become the first important value in this case. My value priorities influenced by my feeling of tension, so they shifted.
Time management is important to have because it helps get work done more efficiently and is a way to manage your priorities. Priorities along with making commitments are also learned from participating in a extra activity. Students learn how to prioritize their work when in activities while also finding a balance of everything else going on in their life; commitment is also learned but showing that a student needs to be 100% involved to put in their best effort to whatever they choose to do and to be be successful doing it. “Various research studies have lined participation in student activities to higher math and english grades, improved grades and homework completion, better performance on math, reading and science test, and an increased likelihood of applying to college” (Annemarie Mannion).
