The Constitution is the document that gives power to the American government. Given the history that the American people had with England and its monarchy, the American people wanted to create a government that strayed far from a monarchy, a government where they could be free to practice their religion without any persecution, where they could become powerful based off of their own merit instead of their status, where they could forge themselves into whomever they wanted to be. This idea of freedom is so greatly debated over, and has been for centuries; however, there are absolutes to the freedom America has that cannot be disputed over. This was very controversial and unheard of for its time, and it was most certainly not something that had been accomplished before to their knowledge, thus it was unknown how exactly to properly execute this. The answer that the Founding Fathers devised was Republicanism. This is an extension of the power people hold, the power to elect representatives to exercise the power the people hold. This is expressed in the Constitution through the House of Representatives, which is made up of the representatives that the people vote on. The idea that the government cannot go outside of the Constitution is called Limited Government. This prevented the government from doing anything that the Constitution did not give them power to do. This was done through the way the Representatives of the people were elected, as they cycled out so that no one person or group could become too powerful. This was a step in the right direction for the people; however, some states did not want to give all the power to a central, Federal,
