The scope of practice of a family nurse practitioner enables them the ability to serve as a primary care provider for families. This includes providing care for each member of the family individually and for the entire family collectively as a whole. Family nurse practitioners typically work in either a family practice or community health setting, where they are often responsible for the care of the entire family. Within each setting, there are numerous cultural variations that a family nurse practitioner might encounter. It is important that the family nurse practitioner is able to meet the families’ and are culturally competent when doing so.
Role of Family Nurse Practitioners: Case Study The shortage of primary care physicians has been a problem in health care system and will continue to the next decade due to increasing of aging population. According to National Governors Association (NAG) (2012), the growth of the aging population combined with the initiative of the Affordable Care Act, the problem of primary care providers shortage is worsening. Nurse Practitioners (NPs) are educated and prepared to perform primary care services as physicians do. There are many jobs and fields in the healthcare career. Some people may want to be a Oncologist, Gynecologist, Neurosurgeon, Registered Nurse, or a Certified Nursing Assistant. Every person has a different passion and reason they want to be what they want to be. While some people may want to work as a doctor in trauma, I want to become a nurse practitioner and work in some type of pediatric field. Yet, becoming a nurse practitioner is not that simple.
But I’m also comforter, compassionate and great listener which is what most patient need when they’re not feeling well or dealing with life changing situation. Have you ever pondered about what career you wanted to achieve as you became older? As a child, I always pondered on what I wanted to become when I became older and in sixth grade I was determined to become a Pediatric Nurse. Along the way of deciding what I should become I had no ideas such as becoming a lawyer, neonatal nurse or an actress. I soon realized that a few of my future dreams were unrealistic or did not interest me as much now as they did when I was younger. Pediatric nurses involves them in interacting with patients that vary in illnesses and age, requires them to have strong communication and numerous years of education and training.
This is a personal statement for my application to the Family Nurse Practitioner Concentration in the Ball State School of Nursing. My personal statement provides details on my personal background and the unique impact that Family Nurse Practitioners have had on my life. Also, I am going to start getting paid when I am still doing my schooling because you have to start as a Registered Nurse. I would work to improve my patients and their family’s community and make them feel happy and healthy. They would be able to trust me and feel protected when they are around me to make my job easier. The biggest reason I chose this career is because I love children. I would love to help them and bond with them.
I just completed my Bachelor of Science in Nursing and look forward to exploring nursing theory, evidence-based practice and leadership even further in the advance practice curriculum. I am pursuing family nurse practitioner because it will allow me to be more versatile in my nursing skills and serve a larger patient population. There has been a focus on primary care medicine since the Affordable Care Act; resulting in a larger need for nurse practitioners required to care for this patient population. I have been granted an opportunity to advance my career and I am more than ready to take on the added responsibilities and handle treatment plans autonomously, as well as learning additional skills such as diagnosing and prescribing medications. By obtaining my graduate level education my clinical judgment would be enhanced to improve safety, quality of care and patient outcomes substantially.
I believe a job as a certified nurse assistant will give me a better insight while working beside nurses and observe what set of skills nurses use. My strengths that best suit my personality and this program are determination, effort, caring, critical thinker, discipline, and enthusiastic. These qualities would reflect on a nurse and would make caring for the patient easier. I believe that I belong in the nursing field, because ever since I was a child, I always wanted to make a positive influence in people's lives.
I have a heart for service and a strong desire to make a difference in people’s lives. Becoming a nurse I will be able to fulfill my passion of making a positive impact on individual lives on a daily basis. I will be able to fulfill my nurturing and caring desires of helping others. I’m very passionate and fascinated with the medical field in all aspects. I strive for excellence, integrity and love interacting with all diversity of people.
Career Goal I have a few career goals such as becoming an ER registered nurse and a nurse practitioner but fist I want to be an ER registered nurse. For a long time now I could just envision myself in the blue scrub running out to the ambulance as the EMT rushed the patient into the hospital. And successfully collaborating with a team of people to save someone's life.
