Introduction My field of study is Electronic Media and Communication. This is a major that is designed to train innovative, responsible storytellers in convergent media forms who can create, analyze and compete in diverse U.S. and global media marketplaces. This program offers a variety of professional courses in electronic media, visual communications, videography, digital media, photography and writing. I will mainly be focusing on videography because I want to pursue a career as a video producer or video editor. Castle discuss how education institutions have tried to keep up to date with the changing society through curriculum innovation. One way the curriculum is keeping up with curriculum innovation is through technology. Technology is constantly changing and improving. There for, it is improving the way curriculum is taught. More specifically, video clips are being used in learning environments to facilitate learning and encourage learners to engage critically with cultural texts and what they communicate. Including video clips in a classroom helps students better understand course contents, curiosity and critical thinking. This approach to teaching has had a much more positive impact in students when compared to typical lectures. This article also discusses how higher education curriculum is focused on gaining cultural knowledge. With this knowledge students will be more “proactive, creative and reflexive when in cross- cultural behaviors” (Addo & Castle, p4). This is important to think about because this knowledge is a vital component when tied back to videography. Videographers travel all over the world to shoot content and the experience will be more comfortable for videographers if they are aware of cultural expectations from other places. These thoughts provided will allow me to further see the importance of intercultural communication and how it is used in this job. I will be conducting an interview over email with Ali Goodwin. Ali is currently a student at The University of Texas and is already flourishing with her videography career. I know her because she has filmed and created amazing videos for the Drill Team at the High School I attended. She has also created many other videos for organizations and even has her own YouTube channel. I am excited to interview Ali and see what her opinions are on this
